Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer with 3 to 6 years of hands-on experience in React Native to independently design, develop, and deliver high-quality mobile applications across one or more products within the ETPL AI portfolio.

At this level, the Senior Software Engineer operates with significant autonomy, taking ownership of feature areas, making sound implementation decisions, contributing meaningfully to technical discussions, and providing guidance to junior engineers within the team. The role is hands-on and delivery-focused, sitting between the execution-oriented Software Engineer and the architecture-owning Staff Engineer.

ETPL's mobile surfaces serve diverse institutional users - students, faculty, employees, administrators, loan officers, and field teams - across a range of products with distinct workflows and performance requirements. The Senior Software Engineer will bring the depth and discipline to build mobile experiences that are reliable, performant, and thoughtfully designed for real-world usage across varying devices and connectivity conditions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deliver well-structured React Native features and application modules across iOS and Android platforms for assigned ETPL AI products.
• Take end-to-end ownership of assigned feature areas, from technical design and implementation through testing, debugging, and deployment, with minimal supervision.
• Build reusable, composable components and screen-level implementations that align with the product's design system and UX specifications.
• Integrate mobile applications with backend REST APIs, handling authentication flows, data fetching, error states, offline scenarios, and real-time updates robustly.
• Manage application state effectively using appropriate state management approaches such as Redux, Zustand, React Query, or Context, based on product complexity.
• Optimise application performance across devices by addressing rendering bottlenecks, memory management, startup time, and smooth navigation experiences on both high-end and mid-range hardware.
• Write unit and integration tests for developed components and features using Jest and React Native Testing Library, maintaining meaningful test coverage across the codebase.
• Manage app builds, release configurations, and deployment pipelines for both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, including signing, versioning, and OTA update management where applicable.
• Conduct and participate in code reviews, providing constructive and technically grounded feedback to peers and junior engineers.
• Collaborate closely with product managers, UX designers, and backend engineers to translate product requirements into well-considered mobile implementations.
• Contribute to technical documentation, component guidelines, and engineering standards within the mobile engineering team.
• Provide guidance and technical support to junior engineers, helping them resolve blockers and grow their React Native proficiency.

Experience and Profile

• 3 to 6 years of hands-on mobile engineering experience, with strong and sustained depth in React Native.
• Demonstrated experience delivering and maintaining React Native applications in production on both iOS and Android platforms.
• Proven ability to own feature development independently, from design through delivery, within a structured product team.
• Experience integrating mobile applications with REST APIs and managing complex application state in a production environment.
• Experience with app store submission, release management, and production monitoring for React Native applications.
• Prior exposure to enterprise or B2B mobile product contexts, particularly applications with complex role-based workflows, offline capability, or field usage requirements, is an advantage.

Skills and Attributes

• Deep working knowledge of React Native, with strong proficiency in functional components, hooks, and navigation (React Navigation).
• Solid understanding of JavaScript and TypeScript, with the ability to write type-safe, maintainable mobile application code.
• Strong experience with state management approaches such as Redux Toolkit, Zustand, React Query, or equivalent, and the judgement to apply them appropriately.
• Proficiency in REST API integration, including authentication token management, request handling, error management, and optimistic UI patterns.
• Working knowledge of React Native performance optimisation, including FlatList tuning, memoisation, bridge usage, Hermes engine considerations, and profiling with Flipper or equivalent tools.
• Familiarity with push notifications, deep linking, background processing, and device permission management on both platforms.
• Experience with Jest and React Native Testing Library for unit and component testing; familiarity with Detox or Appium for end-to-end testing is a plus.
• Proficiency with Git and structured branching strategies for collaborative mobile development in a multi-engineer team.
• Experience with CI/CD tooling for mobile such as Fastlane, Bitrise, GitHub Actions, or equivalent, for automated build and release workflows.
• Solid understanding of mobile UX principles, accessibility standards, and responsive layout behaviour across screen sizes and orientations.
• Good communication skills, able to participate clearly in technical discussions, document decisions, and flag risks or blockers proactively.
• A collaborative work style with the ability to support junior engineers while contributing strongly as an individual engineer.
